There are scientific studies proving visualization can boost success rates for whatever one is attempting to achieve. Many athletes and top performers use visualization in addition to training. But it is not limited to just certain people; everyone has the ability to visualize and can implement this tool to help them in every area of their life.
Some people may freak out when they contemplate visualizing something. They may be worried that there’s something wrong with them if they don’t actually “see” anything behind their closed eyelids and that it won’t work for them. However, that’s nothing to worry about! You do it every day, probably without realizing it. If you’re worrying about something, you’re visualizing the worst. If you’re excited about something, you’re visualizing something wonderful.
“Visualization is the human beings vehicle to the future – good, bad or indifferent. It’s strictly in our control.”
Earl Nightingale
Even if you don’t see it playing out like a movie in your head, you can still script it out and state those things to yourself. Include details from all of your senses, feel the emotions you want to experience, and state everything in the present moment, as if it is happening right now.
“You are more productive by doing fifteen minutes of visualization than from sixteen hours of hard labor.”
Abraham Hicks
It needn’t be a long, drawn-out process. You can do this in just a few minutes, while you’re in the shower or doing a mundane chore. If you practice visualization right before you go to sleep or right after you wake up, it’s even better, as your subconscious mind is more open to receiving this information.
“Visualization is daydreaming with a purpose.”
Bo Bennett
Some quick tips for setting up a visualization practice:
- Choose something you want to achieve, or bring into your life
- Figure out when and where you will practice.
- Do it only once or twice a day for no more than 5-10 minutes at a time.
- Imagine yourself in the scenario with every possible detail – sights, sounds, colors, smells, etc.
- Feel the emotions you’re after! THIS IS KEY!
- Imagine the end result, but also state, “This or something better.”
This is essentially all there is to it. You’re only limited by your imagination, so put your imagination to use.
Now, this doesn’t mean that visualization is all you do. This is in addition to the actions you need to take in order to bring your dream to fruition.
“To bring anything into your life, imagine that it’s already there.”
Richard Bach
