Creating and Maintaining Balance

Trying to balance our work and personal lives can be tricky and can leave us feeling frustrated. When we’re constantly focusing on what is going on outside of and around us, we end up with a sense of turmoil and an overwhelming feeling of being out-of-sync.

The key to a balanced life is created within us, not found outside of us. We do this by prioritizing our needs, not by putting them off to the end of our to-do list, like a dreaded chore. When we put ourselves last, we end up feeling depleted and unhappy, and we’re not able to be or do all that we want, because we just don’t have energy left. Taking care of our body, mind, and spirit is crucial for a life well lived.

“Balance is a feeling derived from being whole and complete; it’s a sense of harmony. It is essential to maintaining quality in life and work.”

Joshua Osenga

In order to create balance, it’s important to address all aspects of self-care which includes getting adequate sleep, enjoying hobbies and fun, spending time with friends and loved ones, having alone time, eating nutritional meals, and exercising. In addition, we achieve spiritual balance by incorporating devotional routines or meditation/prayer, etc.

“Don’t work so hard that you forget to enjoy your life.”

Akiroq Brost

When we actively place our needs and well-being first, we are happier and healthier in general. And find we have more to offer others, as we are constantly replenishing our energy. When we take care of ourselves, everything else will fall into place much easier, and we’ll have the balance we’ve been seeking.

“Imagine life as a game in which you are juggling some five balls in the air. You name them – work, family, health, friends and spirit and you’re keeping all of these in the air. You will soon understand that work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back. But the other four balls are made of glass. If you drop one of these, they will be irrevocably scuffed, marked, nicked, damaged, or even shattered. They will never be the same. You must understand that and strive for balance in your life.”
