Self-Doubt

In what ways do you doubt yourself and your abilities? How has doubt sabotaged you or stirred up self-limiting beliefs? The following examples are probably familiar: What if I fail? What if it doesn’t work out? What if (the worst) happens? What was I thinking?

“Doubt whom you will, but never yourself.”

Christian Nestell Bovee

It doesn’t matter what you’re trying to do, when you entertain doubt it stops you from making any meaningful progress or improvement. What’s so sneaky about doubt is that it can be subtle, and before you even realize it, you have gone off-track from what you want, your fear and anxiety have taken over, and the damage is done.

“The only limit to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today.”

Franklin D. Roosevelt

Instead of allowing the doubt-filled, negative “what ifs” that tend to dominate our thoughts to continue wreaking havoc, it’s time to bravely reframe them. Changing anything takes courage, and this is no different. You must take back your power and remove doubt by practicing trust in order to accomplish whatever you intend to.

Rather than allowing fear to have its way, cultivate curiosity. Instead of worrying, focus on appreciation. What if I succeed? What if everything works out in my favor? What if it turns out even better than I imagined?

“Successful people strive no matter what they feel by applying their will to overcome apathy, doubt or fear.”

Dan Millman
