I Believe

The words “I believe” convey tremendous power. Whether we are aware of it or not, all the thoughts, words spoken aloud, and feelings we hold, contribute to our life experiences. Sometimes we don’t even know what we believe until it just comes out during emotional outbursts.

“The outer conditions of a person’s life will always be found to reflect their inner beliefs.”

James Allen

When we think “I can’t” we believe we aren’t capable of something. When we say “I am” we believe we are whatever we just stated. It is important to be careful with these words, and use them in positive, affirming ways.

When we take steps toward something such as learning a new skill, practicing patience or courage, or striving toward a goal, we can support our efforts by being aware of what we are claiming, ensuring we are correcting negative thoughts and words into constructive, empowering statements.

“Beliefs have the power to create and the power to destroy.”

Tony Robbins

Take time to cultivate an ongoing awareness of your beliefs, whether they are truly yours, rather than something that was passed down from family or that you unconsciously picked up from others. By taking ownership of your beliefs, you are bringing authenticity to your life and experiences, instead of just a generic default that isn’t quite accurate.

“Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all then accept it and live up to it.”
