Simple Math

When we’re constantly bustling around, taking on more than our fair share of responsibilities, multitasking all while trying to get from point A to point B as quickly as possible, we are prone to accidents, illness, anxiety, impatience, and bad moods. It may not feel like it, but we do have a choice; we just have to be courageous and give ourselves permission to slow down, calm ourselves, and focus on the present moment.

“You get to decide where your time goes. You can either spend it moving forward, or you can spend it putting out fires. You decide. And if you don’t decide, others will decide for you.”

Tony Morgan

Taking just two or three slow, deliberate, and deep breaths can help us relax and feel more centered. When we are calm, we are likely to be more productive and find solutions to whatever challenges we’re facing. As we assess what is truly important and what we have taken on as our own but is really not, we can decide to release whatever is just taking up too much time and causing more stress and anxiety, thereby taking control of our mental and physical wellbeing as well as how we allocate our time.

“If you know the art of deep breathing, you have the strength, wisdom and courage of ten tigers.”

Chinese adage

We can choose to let go of resentment, fear, bad habits, a negative mindset, or the tendency to try to be everything to everybody. We can choose to take a step back, count our blessings, and replace those energy-sucking behaviors with behaviors that bring us more genuine peace and contentment.

“I have chosen to be happy because it is good for my health.”

Voltaire

Now here’s a rather simple math formula I created that will hopefully be helpful: We multiply the good in our life by adding in positive habits, taking away that which is not ours to deal with, thus halving our stress and anxiety. This equals a happier life. 😊

“Life is a math equation. In order to gain the most, you have to know how to convert negatives into positives.”
