If we let it, life’s responsibilities and overall busyness can contribute to feelings of tension and aggravation. That’s why it is important to include time for relaxation and activities that we enjoy. Schedule it in, if necessary; don’t just ‘get to it when you get to it’, because there will always be something else that comes up demanding your attention. By prioritizing our self-care, we are letting our subconscious know that our need for rest and rejuvenation is just as important as everyone else’s. We are not here to give and give and give without regard to our own health and happiness.
“Love yourself enough to set boundaries. Your time and energy are precious. You get to choose how you use it. You teach people how to treat you by deciding what you will and won’t accept.”
Anna Taylor
When we engage in simple activities that nourish our soul, like taking a walk, enjoying 5 minutes of reflection or meditation, spending time with loved ones, or simply having some ‘me-time’, we are allowing ourselves to experience a bit of peace and calm in our otherwise loud, chaotic, and harried lives.
“You aren’t doing “nothing” when you choose to put your well-being first. In fact, this is the key to having everything.”
Brittany Burgunder
The attitude we have is extremely important. If we feel guilty about taking a little time for ourselves, then we have been neglecting our wellbeing. However, if we acknowledge that self-care is vital, and we intentionally take a few minutes to ‘turn off the noise’ and just be aware of the present moment, it will make an enormous difference in how we feel and how we go about the rest of the day.
“Self-care is how you take your power back.”
Lalah Delia
Remember, attitude matters. By bringing our attention to the present moment, slowly and deliberately breathing deeply for a minute, spending time doing something we enjoy, and finding a reason to laugh, we will be much more productive and better able to give time to and be of service to others, since we have cared enough to replenish ourselves.
“Sometimes the most important thing in a whole day is the rest we take between two deep breaths.”
Etty Hillesum
