Limitations

There are times we may think that some things and experiences are meant for us to receive, and others aren’t. We may believe negative things about ourselves and limit ourselves because of those erroneous beliefs and thoughts.

“We learn our belief systems as very little children, and then we move through life creating experiences to match our beliefs. Look back in your own life and notice how often you have gone through the same experience.”

Louise Hay

If we choose to examine those beliefs and really get clear on whether those beliefs are actually true, or if they are just something we’ve accepted as fact, but are really nothing more than confused, twisted thoughts that are kind of like a bully – loud, obnoxious, and unrelenting. It’s easy to feel so beat down and just continue to go along with it, because its easier than confronting it. However, we have the freedom to break free from limited thinking.

“Your thoughts constitute your prayers. Use thought and belief to create your realities wisely. Do not create thoughts that produce the illusion of limitation. Instead, create thoughts that expand and extend for you that which you desire to expand and extend. Create thoughts that heal and bless you and others.”

Lonnie C. Edwards

We each have an imagination, and we can use this innate tool to imagine the life we want to live, to imagine the experiences we wish to have, and to choose to think in more constructive and positive ways. Our thoughts and feelings are so powerful. We just need to utilize them in ways that help us shift our perspective.

“Life is like a camera – focus on what is important. Capture the good times. Develop from the negatives. And if things don’t work out, take another shot.”

Ziad K. Abdelnour

We often hold ourselves back from going for what we really want, because we may feel we are undeserving, or we fear we may fail and look like a fool. So, we talk ourselves out of whatever our dream may be, and we continue plodding along, feeling unhappy, yet resistant to change.

“You are NOT as limited as you think, but you ARE as limited as you think.”

Mary Morrissey

We can look at it like this: if we step on a tack, we have several options. We can continue to walk on it, feeling the pain and allowing the festering infection to wear us down. We can ignore the pain and discomfort, and try not to add any more pressure, but ultimately do nothing about it. Or we can remove it and allow ourselves to heal. Really, it is up to us. No one else can live our lives for us, no one else gets to choose how we think, and no one else is responsible for our happiness.

“You can’t escape from a prison until you recognize you are in one. People who have chosen to live within the limits of their old beliefs continue to have the same experiences. It takes effort and commitment to break old patterns.”

Bob Proctor
