If you’ve ever been to a large shopping center, then you’ve seen those signs that say, “You are here.” It has a map of where stores are located based on where you are in relation to where you want to go.
You have to know where you are, in order to know where you are going. You could just amble along until you happen to find it, or you could plan a route to get there quicker. Sometimes you end up having to take a detour, but still end up where you want to be. Sometimes you are re-directed and you end up somewhere else entirely.
“Recognizing that you are not where you want to be is a starting point to begin changing your life.”
Deborah Day
This is life. So, how do you approach your life; how do you “show up” for it? Do you just nonchalantly let life take you where it will, or do you begin to design the way you want your life to be? Have you accepted the fact that you can change your journey by making the conscious effort to be intentional with your life? Do you stay stuck where you are because the sign says, “you are here”? Or do you just keep going in the same direction because that’s the way you happen to be going, regardless of whether what you want is in that direction or not?
“If you don’t make the time to work on creating the life you want, you’re eventually going to be forced to spend a lot of time dealing with a life you don’t want.”
Kevin Ngo
People tend to confuse the pretense of happiness with actually being happy. You can put on your happy face and smile and convince everyone you are happy and carefree. You can tell yourself you’re happy. But, behind the smile and the bright, cheerful façade, you may be feeling any number of emotions such as despair, panic, anxiety, or you may feel empty or like something’s missing. If this is the case, it is a strong indicator that you are not where you want to be, and it’s time to do something about it.
“You are the one that possesses the keys to your being. You carry the passport to your own happiness.”
Diane von Furstenberg
You are here. Now what? Well, that depends on you. As the saying goes, when one door closes, another one opens. Where do you want to go?
“Accept responsibility for your life. Know that it is you who will get you where you want to go, no one else.”
Les Brown
