Today, observe your thoughts and actions and notice where you can make improvements. Are you thinking, speaking, and acting in ways that are predominantly positive? Are they in alignment with who you are or aspire to be?
Or are you mostly thinking in negative terms, that everything is always a struggle, something good somehow managed to happen, so when’s the other ‘shoe going to drop’ and inevitably bring something bad to even it out, because that’s just the way it is?
“Things work out best for those who make the best of how things work out.”
John Wooden
If you make one tiny shift in how you perceive your experiences, you realize that life is an adventure. You are always creating, whether you realize it or not, so why not create what you want?
“The difference between a stumbling block and a steppingstone is how high you raise your foot.”
Benny Lewis
When you feel stressed or concerned about something or if something unsettling happens (and no life is without experiences that we perceive as ‘bad’) you can change your reactions from “Why does bad stuff always happen to me?” to “I’m going to see this as an opportunity to be grateful for all the stuff that goes right for me. This was just a blip, but now better things are on the way.”
“It’s a funny thing about life, once you begin to take note of the things you are grateful for, you begin to lose sight of the things that you lack.”
Germany Kent
Every step along the journey of self-exploration and discovery is a step to better express who you are. Each person you encounter brings something of value, it’s just a matter of understanding what it is, acknowledging their perspective, and using what you learn from them in ways that bolsters your progress toward living a more authentic life. The perspective of one person may not be what you choose to focus on for yourself, but now you know it’s not for you. Another person may have a point of view that you hadn’t considered before, but now realize it was the missing piece of what you had been looking for.
“Empathy begins with understanding life from another person’s perspective. Nobody has an objective experience of reality. It’s all through our own individual prisms.”
Sterling K. Brown
Be excited for the ‘what if?’ possibilities of this day. Though you do not know what challenges or opportunities may come your way, look for and expect positive outcomes. Let go of the old way of thinking that does not work for you and limits what is possible, and open yourself to the new way of thinking that allows for expansion, growth, development in all areas of your life. Perform an experiment every day in which you make the decision that this will be your best day yet. Make that one tiny shift from bleak to brilliant and play with the wonderful possibilities that are yours for the taking and see what happens.
“Asking is the beginning of receiving. Make sure you don’t go to the ocean with a teaspoon. At least take a bucket so the kids won’t laugh at you.”
Jim Rohn
