We should try an experiment and embrace everyday with an attitude of gratitude, especially on those days when things are not going the way we want. If we choose to believe it is all happening for our ultimate good and that our experiences are beneficial in some way – even when some of those experiences may be labeled ‘bad’ – we have the opportunity for growth and personal development.
“Reflect upon your present blessings, of which every man has plenty; not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some.”
Charles Dickens
One way to help us focus on the good is to compose a gratitude list or a gratitude journal. Holding only the best thoughts can change our outlook in a big way. With each blessing we write down, we open ourselves to joy which can help us rise above the challenges of whatever is going on in our lives.
“The heart that gives thanks is a happy one, for we cannot feel thankful and unhappy at the same time.”
Douglas Wood
As we continue the practice of gratitude, we will become even more aware of all that we have to be grateful for. And as our focus expands, so will our blessings.
“As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”
John F. Kennedy
