By Default, or With Intention

When thinking back over the past year and recalling the events that occurred, we most likely will find blessings that we didn’t expect or that may not have seemed like a blessing at the time. Yet, even during tough times, it is important to look for the good, because even if it isn’t apparent now, it is there somewhere.

As this new year stretches out ahead of us, we should give thanks for all that has brought us to this moment. We have the opportunity to treat each day as a brand-new chapter in our life. We can bring enthusiasm and joy into each day, making the adventure of life even more fulfilling. Or we can continue to go along as we always have, stuck in our routines and not really ‘living’, more like just getting through it.

“Such a simple concept, yet so true: that which we manifest is before us; we are the creators of our own destiny. Be it through intention or ignorance, our successes and our failures have been brought on by none other than ourselves.”

Garth Stein

Life is not something that should just ‘happen’ to us. We have an imagination, so we should use it to clearly envision the life we want for ourselves – dream big dreams, and begin taking actions, even tiny ones, to make those dreams come true. If we are lucky enough to wake up in the morning, we are going to be creating our day anyway, so is it going to be by default? Or is it going to be with intention?

“Respond to every call that excites your spirit.”

Rumi

We may not always feel confident as we start imagining what we could do with this blank slate but just knowing that the potential for opening ourselves up for more goodness in our lives creates a snowball effect and that eagerness and sense of wonder increases our happiness and joy. And, when we feel those positive vibes, we radiate that heartfelt energy to those we encounter throughout our day. As we share those joyous feelings, they continue to grow, which, in turn, will boost our confidence in ourselves to live intentionally, as well.

“An unintentional life accepts everything and does nothing. An intentional life embraces only the things that will add to the mission of significance.”

John C. Maxwell
