Just Breathe

It is so easy to become anxious and worried when we’re facing uncertainty. Even if we have done everything we can to make certain that we will have the best possible outcome, we often still have fears and doubts. Fear is natural, but if we let that control us, it will keep us stuck and we’ll have difficulty moving forward.

Whenever we are feeling unsure of ourselves and our circumstances, it is imperative to stop for a moment and take a deep breath. Usually when we are stressed and just freaking out, we are either breathing too shallowly or we’re holding our breath. Either way, it’s not conducive to our well-being.

“Deep breathing brings deep thinking and shallow breathing brings shallow thinking.”

Elsie Lincoln Benedict

So, when things feel challenging or overwhelming, take some time to just breathe and disconnect from what is causing stress, and it will be easier to regroup. By taking the opportunity to gently focus on breathing slowly and deeply, we will calm ourselves so we can relax and release the anxiety, worries, and fears.

“We have a saying in Tibet: If a problem can be solved there is no use worrying about it. If it can’t be solved, worrying will do no good.”

Heinrich Harrer

Things may not turn out exactly as we want them too, but often they may turn out even better, especially if we aren’t too attached to one specific outcome. That’s the hardest part, though. We often get it in our head that it must be this way, and nothing else will do. However, by surrendering that idea and allowing for “this or something better”, then we can eliminate a lot of stress.

“Inhale, exhale, it is well, it is well. All of this is a part of the story you will tell.”

Morgan Harper Nichols
