Rx: Fun

Life can feel heavy, with all the responsibilities and obligations that just seem so daunting at times. When we work too much or for too long without taking a break, our energy wanes, and our thinking becomes muddled. If we go through life doing only what we think must be done, working ourselves weary and never feeling like we’re actually getting to where we want to be in life, we become bored, depressed, exhausted, etc. Therefore, we must give ourselves permission to step back from all the busyness for a little while, and spend time playing, relaxing, and just plain having fun.

“When you recover or discover something that nourishes your soul and brings joy, care enough about yourself to make room for it in your life.”

Jean Shinoda Bolen

Fun can come from anything that lightens our mood, warms our heart, or makes us laugh. Whatever brings a smile to our face and creates a feeling of enjoyment and enthusiasm is a prescription for a happier more contented life. We can’t go on trudging through life without taking some time for ourselves to have fun. When we engage in regular time-outs from work and take advantage of opportunities to do things we enjoy, we will be better able to handle all those daily responsibilities with more ease and creativity. Inspiration will flow with plenty of ideas and our energy will remain higher.

“Life is playfulness…We need to play so that we can rediscover the magic all around us.”

Flora Colao

Celebrate life and don’t let it be all about so-called duties, burdens, or restrictions. When we share a smile or joke with those around us, we will create a wave of playful energy that will have everyone feeling a little better. So, declare today to be the best one yet, and do something fun.

“We are never more fully alive, more completely ourselves, or more deeply engrossed in anything than when we are playing.”

Charles Schaefer
