Having courage does not mean that you are never afraid. Rather, being courageous means that you face the situation as bravely as possible, despite the fear. You take that bold step, you face the ‘giant’, and you do what you can in the best way you can, even if you’re trembling with apprehension.
“You will never do anything in this world without courage. It is the greatest quality in the mind next to honor.”
Aristotle
Courage takes many forms – from standing up for yourself and others, to speaking your mind, to pursuing and achieving dreams and goals despite obstacles or limitations that seem insurmountable. When we bravely choose to explore something new, we open ourselves to being even more successful in our endeavors.
“Be brave enough to live the life of your dreams according to your vision and purpose instead of the expectations and opinions of others.”
Roy T. Bennett
This doesn’t mean we will always be successful on the first or fiftieth attempt, but it means that we have become stronger and a bit more resilient in the face of daunting circumstances, which does increase our chances of success in the long run. Bravery does not mean never feeling fear, but when we summon our courage, even if it is just bit by bit, holding on just a little longer, then we are better able to handle whatever comes our way.
“Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage.”
Anais Nin
