Let Your Imagination Run Wild

As children, we let our imaginations run wild and we freely dreamed big dreams and had such grand ideas, and yet we believed we could accomplish those goals. Somehow, over time, we start to doubt ourselves and those grand ideas started to feel outrageous, and we let ourselves believe that there was no way we could realistically accomplish those goals. So many times, we may have an idea of what we want for our lives, but we let fear keep us from trying to reach some of the bigger, wilder dreams.

“Worry is a misuse of imagination.”

Dan Zadra

Not every dream we have is going to be successful, yet if we let fear hold us back from even trying, then it definitely won’t be successful. While some of our dreams may not pan out, just by taking an action toward making that dream real, then the likelihood of our reaching that goal is exponentially higher. And the more steps we take in the direction we want our lives to take, then sooner or later we will be where we want to be, or at least in the general vicinity.

We are meant to fully immerse ourselves in our lives, rather than just drift along with whatever happens to us. We don’t have to limit ourselves to smaller dreams for any reason. If we let other people’s fear-based beliefs and biases hold us back, and we adopt those negative mindsets as well, then we are only buying into the self-limiting paradigm or pattern that we erroneously accept as valid that we are not worthy of having what we want or of living the wonderful life we imagined for ourselves when we were younger.

“Hope lies in dreams, in imagination, and in the courage of those who dare to make dreams into reality.”

Jonas Salk

Focus on something you want to accomplish and let your imagination soar as you take one tiny action toward that goal. Then take another tiny one, and another. Don’t worry about whether or not it is the perfect time, or whether people will think you’re crazy for daring to get out of the ‘box’ they put you in. You are worthy of living the life you want to live, to dream the dreams you want, and to believe in yourself as you begin making progress. Even if things don’t go exactly as planned, it may turn out even better than you imagined.

“Shoot for the moon, and even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.”

Les Brown

  1. It’s so key to remember that not all our dreams turn to reality, and likewise, most of our worries never become real either. So why spend so much time on the latter? Great post. Thanks for sharing!
