The Wheel of the Year has continued turning, and Autumn has finally arrived in the Northern hemisphere! I love this time of year, with the cooling temperatures, color-changing of the leaves, and the crisp, clear blue of the sky.
“There is a harmony in autumn, and a lustre in its sky, which through the summer is not heard or seen, as if it could not be, as if it had not been!”
Percy Bysshe Shelley
The equinoxes happen twice a year, once in spring and again in fall. The Autumn Equinox occurred a few days ago, bringing roughly equal amounts of day and night. Now, the days will slowly get shorter, and the nights will be longer. This is perfect for letting ourselves finish ‘harvesting’ what we’ve been working on the past 6 months and allow ourselves to rest a bit more. Most of us may not literally be harvesting crops, as our ancestors did, but rather reaching goals and completing cycles that were previously set in motion.
If we’ve really been working on achieving goals and creating more of what we want in our life, then we should be experiencing some feedback now. The equinoxes are about balance, so this is the perfect time to contemplate what in your life is balanced and harmonious, and what isn’t. It is also great for celebrating the abundance in our lives and expressing gratitude for ‘reaping what we have sown’ the past few months in the form of what has worked and what hasn’t.
Take some time this week to think about all that you have accomplished and evaluate the results. Use this feedback to help you as you take some downtime before planning what you want to work on for the future.
“Not everyone takes action to harvest the experiences of the seasons of life in order to enjoy their bounty.”
Andrea Goeglein
