The challenging times and struggles that we all must deal with at some point in our lives are valuable because they give us a unique perspective and a deeper appreciation for the good things we experience. It is so important to take time to celebrate when things are going well, rather than just complain when they are not.
“People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.”
Elizabeth Kubler-Ross
When we face difficulties in life, we can let them break us, or we can be resilient and become stronger. We can be bitter, or we can be better. It’s up to us. We can whine and complain and keep going over and over in our heads why this happened, or how much we wish things had turned out differently and keep the wound open and festering and remain stuck in unhappiness, or we can choose to show compassion for ourselves and others and seek the lessons in the challenges, learn from them, and apply them in our lives. This will help ensure we continue to grow and adapt as we go through life.
Being resilient means that when things happen that shake us to our core, and we feel like we’ve hit rock bottom, we find a way to overcome the adversity and work through the pain and come out the other side stronger and more powerful.
“Mastering the art of resilience does much more than restore you to who you once thought you were. Rather, you emerge from the experience transformed into a truer expression of who you were really meant to be.”
