The lyrics from the song “Three Little Birds” by Bob Marley and the Wailers has been stuck in my head for the past couple of days. “Don’t worry ‘bout a thing, ‘cause every little thing gonna be alright.” These days we are all tired, stressed, and frustrated and it is taking its toll; so, taking time for self-care is important now more than ever.
Most people are in dire need of rest and relaxation. However, each person’s idea of what rest and relaxation means will vary, but the point is to focus on something fun and to let go of worries so the mind and body can take a break for a little while. If we never let ourselves relax and just remain in a constant state of alarm, anger, or annoyance, then it will eventually cause us harm, mentally and physically.
“Relaxation is essential for life, and knowledge about its importance can be found in all cultures and all centuries.”
Dr Patrizia Collard
An effective way to encourage relaxation is to find a comfortable position, close your eyes, and just breathe deeply and slowly for a few minutes, while mindfully focusing on the feeling of the breath or on a meaningful word or phrase. Another way is to try progressive muscle relaxation, working from the bottom of your feet progressing up the body to the head, tensing each muscle group for a few seconds then just completely relaxing them. Gentle stretching, leisurely strolling, listening to music you enjoy, focusing on things you are grateful for, or engaging in a hobby are some other ways to take your mind off your worries.
By taking care of ourselves, we ensure that we are healthier and happier, which will put us in a better position to be able to help others when the need arises.
“Take a deep breath. Inhale peace. Exhale happiness.”
A.D. Posey

Aw, this was an exceptionally good post. Spending some time and actual effort to produce a top notch article… but what can I say… I hesitate a whole lot and don’t seem to get nearly anything done.
