Patience. It is one of those things that apparently is a virtue. I don’t know about you, but sometimes I can be patient, depending on the situation, while other times I find myself trying to rush things along. I have also noticed that if I focus on ‘practicing patience’ that I will have plenty of opportunities to do so, because all sorts of irritating, time-sucking situations and people will insert themselves into my day, delaying me further. That is why I am trying to restructure how I think of it as allowing things to happen in the right timeframe.
Patience is power. Patience is not an absence of action; rather it is “timing”. It waits on the right time to act, for the right principles and in the right way.
Fulton J. Sheen
Just because we are impatient and want whatever it is RIGHT NOW does not make it happen sooner and can even end up causing us more problems in the long run. It is so important to remember that even if everything seems out of control, we can only control how we react in any given moment.
We can take a deep breath and let go of the tension that comes with impatience. Getting stressed out does not help. By releasing the need to try to control something that is beyond our control, and just focusing on doing the best we can with what we have now, we can improve our chances of successfully achieving our goal.
I have just three things to teach: simplicity, patience, compassion. These three are your greatest treasures.
Lao Tzu
