Are You Playing the Waiting Game?

A lot of people, even if they are unhappy with the way their life is going, take a wait and see approach to life, or think that “when this happens, I will (fill in the blank).” It’s time to stop playing a waiting game with your life. The more you procrastinate, the harder it is to make the changes you really want to make.

Life is not going to be perfect. It is not going to wait on you; it is happening right now, not something that will start once you reach that goal. When that realization really sinks in, it’s kind of sobering when you reflect on how much time you’ve wasted on waiting for that perfect moment to begin really living the life you want.

When you set a goal, it is important that you take the first step in finishing what you start. Well, duh. That is only logical. Nothing would ever get done if you didn’t take the necessary steps! However, sometimes getting started is difficult or you feel overwhelmed, so you just don’t start.

Or it may be that you are scared to make changes because what you want will affect others who may not be supportive of your desire for change. Add to that the fear of the unknown and you are halfway to talking yourself out of venturing anywhere out of your comfort zone.

One day or day one. You decide.

So start small. Just taking one tiny step in the process of achieving your goal can be just the thing to bring everything else into alignment. In addition, it is better to focus on only one thing at a time, so try to avoid beginning another task before you finish the one you just started. By setting small goals and slowly moving up to larger ones, it will have a snowball effect on your progress. This will also impact your confidence as you continue to reach your goals without feeling overwhelmed by trying to do too much at once.

So, stop procrastinating. Bravely do one thing today to move in the direction you want your life to take. It’s not too late to live the life you want; you just have to start where you are and go from there.

Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising which tempt you to believe that your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires courage.
