We constantly either exchange energy with others such as when we’re ‘in the flow’ and creativity is at a high; give it away to someone who needs some extra energy like when we comfort someone; or have it taken from us by energy vampires or through trauma. In addition, when there is too much going on around us, and we place our attention on too many things at once we send our energy into multiple directions, which causes us to end up feeling tired and overwhelmed, making it difficult to concentrate or get anything done.
When our energy feels scattered, we feel stressed and unhappy, and we are more prone to make mistakes and are less able to be productive. Therefore, it is important to take time to slow down, relax, and immerse ourselves in the present moment. To counteract the effects of scattered energy, it is good to ground ourselves and call our energy back to ourselves when we begin to feel spacey or out of sorts.
One way to do this is to literally say something like: I call back all my own energy that I have given away or that has been taken from me and in return, with love I send back the energy I have taken from others. Another way is to imagine the energy returning to you like a stream of golden sunlight, or to imagine you are a magnet and your own energy immediately returns to you, repelling all that is not yours.
When we are mindful of the present moment, we can then give our full attention to whatever we are doing. By allowing ourselves to focus completely on one thing at a time, we free ourselves to accomplish more, experience things at a deeper level, and open to new opportunities that otherwise we might have missed.
Energy is the essence of life. Every day you decide how you’re going to use it by knowing what you want and what it takes to reach that goal, and by maintaining focus.
