Be Your Authentic Self

We all fall into roles and somewhere along the way we may begin to lose our ‘self’. We identify as this role or that role of whatever we have taken on, and we try to live up to all these expectations that we have for ourselves, or that other people have for us, and over time it seems to become harder and harder to just be ‘you’.

To find your authentic self again, you may need to rid yourself of some (or all) of those unnecessary expectations. It will not be easy; most people will put up a fight if you try to change what they perceive to be your role and do what is in your own best interest. They will call you selfish, they will resent you, or they may not even want to continue the relationship, but if you are not true to yourself, then is it worth it?

By following along with what others want and being how they want you to be – rather than being true to yourself – will cause significant regret and discontentment in the long run.

Respect yourself enough to walk away from anything that no longer serves you, grows you, or makes you happy.
