No Comparison

Many of us have the tendency to compare ourselves to others and come out feeling inadequate. The truth is, everyone is different in one aspect or another. We are all unique and we manage the challenges and experiences of our lives in diverse ways.

This applies to everything. If you’re learning something new and having a challenging time with it, don’t berate yourself because it’s taking longer to learn that you think it should take. Everyone learns at their own pace and trying to rush it does no one any good. Comparing looks, weight, social status, etc. is an enormous waste of energy. Even though we may wish we were something other than we are, each of us has something to offer the world.

How others live their lives can serve as guidance and inspiration, but it should not dictate the way we live our lives. When we feel we do not measure up to someone who we think has a ‘perfect life’, we become disappointed in ourselves and feel like a failure. We look for answers from others instead of focusing on what we want for ourselves. We have limitless possibilities for what we can do with our lives, yet we tend to be afraid of taking responsibility for our choices, goals, and attitudes. We go into a mode of fear and close ourselves off from life because we think we are ‘less than’.

While most of us have feelings like this from time to time, it is imperative to not let it consume us. It’s time to realize that comparing ourselves to others is pointless. We are here to do the best we can with what we have and should value and celebrate our individuality.

Your individuality is the most valuable thing you have.
