Right now, we’re all in a period of emotional adjustment; life as we know it has shifted and everything is topsy-turvy. We’re all feeling a little bit out of sorts and many people are stuck at home, more than likely going a bit stir-crazy, which makes this the perfect time to learn something new, practice positive thinking skills, and make lemonade out of lemons, so to speak.
If you’ve ever wanted to learn a different language, author a novel, start a blog, or implement a workout routine, now is as good a time as any to begin. If you have young children, it may feel like you’ve run out of ideas to keep them entertained, but you can use the time to have a family workout ‘competition’, practice learning a new language together, spend time reading together, or pull out all those old board games and have a family game night. Since we’re all eating at home more often, perhaps let the kids help in the kitchen.
With all the changes we’re facing, and the uncertainty of it all, it can be overwhelming. If we focus more on self-improvement and challenge ourselves with learning new things, it will help keep our minds sharp as well as give us a creative outlet, which is especially important during this time. Constantly watching the ‘news’ and being so worried about it all to the exclusion of everything else, is not doing anyone any good. In fact, the stress will cause even more problems. We owe it to ourselves and our families to unplug for a little while, allow ourselves to recharge, and find at least one thing every day that will make us smile. And why not enjoy some lemonade while we’re at it?
It’s not the situation, but whether we react negative or respond positive to the situation that is important.
