Adaptability

Sometimes we must be flexible and adaptable with our thinking and not let ourselves become attached to just one way of doing something. We all have our own habits and patterns, and there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s when we get stuck in a rut from a certain mindset that it can get difficult. Life is full of ups and downs and we can end up feeling overwhelmed and just go with what we’ve become accustomed to doing, saying, or thinking.

It’s not always easy to let go of a certain way of doing or thinking about things. If it’s worked in the past, it may be our ‘go-to’ response and we feel it will always be the correct one. However, as I stated before, life is always changing and there are going to be times when what worked before won’t necessarily work next time.

Therefore, it’s important to be able to use our creativity to act, think, and respond in ways that are more appropriate depending upon the situation. We don’t have to follow a script like actors in a movie; we are free to make changes as needed. We owe it to ourselves to be flexible, rather than rigid, in our thinking and behavior. In doing so, we open ourselves to more possibilities and potential growth that can enrich our lives.

A wise man adapts himself to circumstances, as water shapes itself to the vessel that contains it.
