Whether we realize it or not, people are watching us and our lives. They are paying attention to how we conduct ourselves in all the different roles we have as a person -and we will most often make a lasting impression on someone when we’re just living our life and doing ordinary, everyday things.
We all tend to observe the people around us. As children, we learned by watching and imitating others. We still do, to some extent; therefore, it is important to live as consciously as possible, and be aware of our behavior and attitude, and the potential influence it may have on someone. Since we obviously can’t plan the situations or encounters that will make a lasting impression on someone, we should consciously choose to be a kind and honest person and do our best to interact with others in the best way possible.
This isn’t about being ‘perfect’. No one is perfect. There will be times when we behave in ways that we’re not proud of. Yet, if we become aware of the impact of our day-to-day conduct, we may very well find ourselves making different choices, especially if we realize it might make an impact not just on one person, but by the ripple effect, it may impact many people.
Throughout our lives we’re going to make many lasting impressions whether we want to or not, and it’s up to us whether the messages we send are positive or negative, so why not try to make them good ones?
A thousand words will not leave so deep an impression as one deed.
Henrik Ibsen
