There will be times when someone will say or do something that upsets you, but remember that you, at one time or another, have said or done something to offend a person. It happens.
Understandably, if we all just focus on blame or regret, we will end up filled with resentment. A better choice is to show understanding and compassion through forgiveness – for ourselves as well as others.
Empathy is the ability to feel other’s pain or joy – even if we don’t agree with their point of view. It allows us to see the similarities in others instead of allowing differences to divide us or by making loved ones into the enemy.
When we come from a feeling of empathy, rather than judgment or anger, we can influence others to become more receptive and less rigid in their views. Of course, there will always be exceptions to the rule, but for the most part, this will help more people to try to see other’s points-of-view, and it will be much easier to find compromises and to get along with each other, forgive each other, and love each other.
If there is any one secret of success, it lies in the ability to get the other person’s point of view and see things from his angle as well as your own.
