Have you ever heard the expression, “making mountains out of molehills”? During certain times of the day, an object will block the sun’s light so that the shadow appears much larger than the object itself. Problems, worries, and challenges can be like that, making them seem much bigger than they really are. This can cause feelings of defeat, discouragement, and just being completely overwhelmed.
If you are inundated by negative thoughts, remember that you can choose to take control of your thoughts and open your mind to better ways of thinking, which can lead you to make better decisions. You can always rethink a situation and make corrections as necessary to any plans and actions; this will keep you an active participant in your focus on living life in a positive manner and moving forward to the best of your ability.
Worrying about the future and fretting about the past is a huge waste of time. You can’t change what has happened, no matter how much you wish you could – and the future hasn’t happened yet, so while we can focus on the good that we want to happen, worrying about it won’t help. I know– easier said than done; but, start small and try for just a few minutes to let go of the worry and see how much better you feel without carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders.
Remember, no one must do everything alone. There is someone or something around you to help you fulfill your goals. Recognizing these resources and opportunities and then acting upon them can help bring those “mountains” into perspective.
Hope is like the sun, which, as we journey toward it, casts the shadows of our burdens behind us.
