Most people are always in a hurry, thinking of this or that, making plans, stressed out, and attention scattered. A way to bring some quiet and relaxation is to meditate. By spending a few moments focusing on one thing, whether it is your breath, or the present moment, or a mantra, it will help you to overcome feelings of stress and instability.
On the contrary to what you might think, meditation doesn’t have to be a strict posture, sitting still, and clearing your mind of all thoughts; a nice alternative is a walking meditation. The point is, to keep your mind focused on the present moment while you walk. When your mind wanders, gently acknowledge the thought, then let it go.
Bring your attention to the present moment: pay attention to what is around you; appreciate the ability to walk and how your legs and feet have supported you all these years; think of the effort your feet make as you take each step; repeat short phrases, such as “I breathe in peace, I breathe out relaxation” or some other phrase of your own choosing. How you choose to spend those few moments is up to you. See what works best for you.
Take a few minutes every day just to calm and center yourself, before you go about your day, as well as those times when everything seems chaotic and you just need a minute to get back on track. If nothing else, just take a few deep, slow breaths – it really will help.
Your destiny is to fulfill those things upon which you focus most intently. So choose to keep your focus on that which is truly magnificent, beautiful, uplifting and joyful. Your life is always moving toward something.
